Group StarSkate

What comes after CanSkate?

Once your child has progressed through CanSkate, they move into StarSkate which offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and artistic.

In StarSkate, skaters are required to have their own professional coach and work independently. This is a big change from CanSkate. As a bridge from CanSkate to StarSkate, the CSC offers Group StarSkate classes.

Group StarSkate offers instruction in the StarSkate program but in a format that skaters are already familiar with from CanSkate. Skaters will work with a professional coach in a small group class. They receive 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of "free time" during the 1 hour weekly session.

A skater can progress to Group StarSkate when they have completed:

  • Stage 6 of CanSkate OR
  • Stage 4 of CanSkate with the recommendation of a coach and show an interest in figure skating.

What is the cost difference between CanSkate, Group StarSkate and StarSkate?

In CanSkate, the fee includes the ice time and the coaching fee.
In Group StarSkate, the fee includes the ice time and the coaching fee.
In StarSkate, the fee includes only the ice time. Skaters pay their professional coach directly for the lessons they receive. The coaching fee is set by the coach.
